Tolstoy: A Very Human Journey critically reflects on the life and teachings of Leo Tolstoy.

Choices and Description

Tolstoy: A Very Human Journey not only is a reflection on various facets of Tolstoy's life but, as well, explores a number of his key religious, philosophical, and political ideas in considerable detail. The working hypothesis of this book is that the literary work Anna Karenina gives expression to Tolstoy's initial attempt to deal with the depression and suicidal ideation that first surfaced in his life following the completion of War and Peace, and that the spiritual solution which appeared in the last part of the aforementioned novel became the scaffolding structure for subsequently building a detailed defense of that spiritual solution in later non-fictional works. Tolstoy: A Very Human Journey offers a critical examination of a substantial sampling of Tolstoy's ideas.
